Man, I have never seen that.

Try Craftmeister alkaline cleaner and you'll never use Oxi or PBW again.

I have been using this for a while and really like it. Spike even included some with their kettles.

I use it for my conical.  Great stuff...dump some in, fill it with cold water, come back the next day to drain and rinse.

The 5 pound bucket gets you down to $6.60/lb. About the same as PBW

I have done the math. At the end of a brew day, I save 50ยข, maybe $1.00. I try to be a right tool for the job kind of guy. I have had too many bad experiences trying to cut corners and regretted the choice.

if I wanted to save a buck, I would quit homebrewing all together. Something like this that makes brewing easier and less stressful and the penalty is $1.00, I am in.

I always rinse the PBW before Starsan. The PBW is caustic. Any remaining on the surface compromises the power of starsan which according to spec has to be below 2.4 to be effective.

+1 PBW is not a no rinse cleaner in my book. It gets majorly rinsed away with tap water. The value of these types of cleaners is they get rid of places for germs and other nasties might linger. After that, Exposure to Iodophore or Starsan germs got no where to hide.

Having said this, I speculate. If there is a bacteria or germ or whatever we do not want, would it survive being exposed to PBW?

Not that it matters much. I do not want PBW or any other harsh alkaline in my beer, it gets rinsed away with great prejudice.

It gets followed up with a good sanitizer exposure.

Somewhere there is a warning to not use PBW on teflon pans because PBW will strip the teflon off the pan.

WE had an old pan the wife was going to throw out. I took it and soaked in PBW for a few days, The teflon stuck on that pan.

I'll be fine and dandy with my bargain basement equipment and cleaner, no matter who you may be shilling for this month :D

(I'm really kidding, I swear, I wish I were the most famous homebrewer of all!)
