Sitting in the hot tub, in the snow, and the phone trucks along just fine. May have even spilled bloody Mary on it.

Is this a new hot tub with the pool project or did you already have it?  I plan to get into mine sometime over the weekend.

I've had this one for about 6 years, since I built the new section of the deck. The pool area will be built out below it once the ground thaws.

You sure know how to live Lou.  :D

I went for a 4 mile walk in the forest, had fun drive through slippery backwoods road, took a hot bath, and now I'm eating ice cream watching snow fall from a warm house. Its good to be on-grid.

Lou, what's your ballpark additional energy cost for your house since you added the hot tub? We may get a bit colder here, but I'm sure the wind you see balances that out. Swmbo and I are on the fence with this. Talk me into spending money!

P.s. Good friends less than 2 miles down the road already have a pool, which is clearly the best place to put a pool, so we're good there. :troll:

If I had to guess, maybe fifty bucks a month in the winter. No real idea, though. I finished a new space in my house within the same 3 month period, so it's hard to tell what caused what increases.

So you can pay for it out of HSA or something? They really tightened up the rules in the past few years.

Nah, just other things to spend money on. Also, will need to replace boards or possibly redo entire deck in 10 years, so that would be a good time to integrate a tub (and I'll probably have some arthritis by then ;)).

We've been toying with the idea. I'd like a saline one.

We just (well, November) took ours out.
We had it for twenty years and feel like it was worth the money but the wife was increasingly having trouble getting in and out due to her health. Was good while we had it.

Is your heater gas or electric?  In our old house we had a big, badass gas heater that would get the temp up 15° per hour.  That was a 440 gallon tub.  Our tub now has an electric heater so it's about 7° per hour and this is a 265 gallon tub.  This tub also has some sort of 'economy mode' where if there is no activity in X amount of time, it allows the temp to drop to save energy.  The only problem there is that you can't think about going in 5 minutes before you want to... you have to check the temp ahead of time and [possibly] allow enough time for the temp to get back up.  I doubt mine uses $50 a month in electric but I suppose it's possible.
