I have one coming my way for x-mas.  bought the switch with mario kart 8, just dance 2019, some silly plastic steering wheel things for mario kart and a pro controller b/c I had a feeling I wouldn't like those small controllers for "real" game play.

is there anything else I really need to make this experience reasonable?  I'm seeing people buying extra AC adapters and USB3->ethernet adaptors but this stuff is priced at a stupid level.  it's like owning apple products so if I don't really need them I'll probably pass.

is there another game I should be getting right out of the gate?  mario odyssey perhaps?  for consoles I'm pretty much totally old school 16-bit gaming era so I don't have a lot of 3D mario miles on my gaming odometer.

The Nintendo membership gets you old school games. I think it’s only $20/ year..

Got one coming for xmas too and I'll pick up Mario Odyssey, but it kind of feels like the Wii U with the lack of titles. I saw they have a remake of the Wii U Mario side scroller coming out, but it looks like exactly the same game with one new character (lame). I already have Mario Kart 8 and Zelda on the Wii U, so not sure if it's worth parting with $120 for the Switch versions. If it wasn't for Mario Odyssey, I don't think I'd buy this console. Is MO one player, like Mario 64 and Galaxy were?

I do want to get a Pro controller or two though. Any good third party ones?

I got them crash bandicoot, overcooked 2 and dragonball fighterZ, plus Mario Kart 8 with the console. My mom got them a few games too. I think Zelda and super mario party. I wanted to get sm odyssey too but xmas funds are getting thin, that one may have to wait. No orher accessories yet.

If you can swing it, stick with the official pro controller.  We have a pro and an Ortz brand controller.  The Ortz is ok, but on some games the buttons just don't work as they're supposed to.  Also, it vibrates a lot more than it should and sometimes when it's not supposed to(just an annoyance).

Is there a good reason not to buy games either new or used on eBay?

Hollow Knight is a killer game for switch, more like an older game as it is really hard with killer bosses.

Gah! My mom already bought It for the kids but only for $6 more than that.
Now I'm hoping for a good smash Bros deal in the coming months.

Smash is not likely to drop in price.
