Made a starter last night and the bar was thrown when I checked later.  And again, and again............. Took the home made stirplate apart and everything looked fine.  Finally I found my spare stir bars - problem solved. I had no idea.

Sounds like a perfect time to switch to a SNS starrer

I guess flask wear out too.  I have a 4000ML lab grade flask with 3000ML's of hot starter wort in it this weekend and I heard a "ting" and saw a crack from one side down the bottom to the other.  I was just happy I was able to move it with out an accident.

I have one stir bar and one flask that don't get along for some reason. Bar constantly gets thrown.

It sounds nice for those that use it.  I don't have a big enough container for 10 gallon batches.  And the timing frequently wouldn't work for me.
