I’ve never been much of a reader, but I’m trying to start more

Several reasons.

First, it’s a way to kind of check out of life for a bit and immerse myself in something for an hour or two - hopefully something that can relieve stress and anxiety

Second, probably not a bad way to keep my mind and vocabulary a little more sharp

Third, I’m a songwriter. I’m always seeing how many of the great writers are avid readers - how reading is a great source of inspiration

Fourth, figure it’s better for me than spending hours on my phone or watching TV

But I’m not sure what to read. I’ve started by reading a couple of Hemingway books I had around the house. While I’ve enjoyed them, I wouldn’t mind reading some stuff that’s a little more of a modern writing style

Certainly looking for fiction to start. Nothing too deep or heavy. Help me out

NFPA 13 & NFPA 13D - fire sprinkler code books.  Enthralling.

Ahhh....didn't Dis just write a fiction book?  :D  It's actually been sitting on my nightstand for about 3 months now, and I haven't cracked it.

I read the reissue of One Man's Wilderness. I liked that.

I'm a couple books into Raymond Chandler and I like those.

Jocko's new book is on my list.

I think I've been listening to too many podcasts since that's been filling up my audio book time. May have to cut back on those.

Right now, the blue board.

Mostly magazines, Outside, Men's Health, etc. I used to read more, but just don't make the time.

I'm reading about 5-6 cookbooks right now. I usually have a fiction book to lighten things up a bit. Anything by Gene Wolfe is a good bet.

Recently I read the first three Dune books, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and currently reading The Man in the High Castle. I tried reading more of the Tinker Tailor series but didn't get into it before it was due back at the library. Reading The House With A Clock In Its Walls to my girl right now. After that it's Lord of the Flies.

Finishing up a four-book series by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, set in Barcelona during the Spanish civil war and its aftermath.  Has a bit of everything.   Next up is CoDex 1962 by Icelandic author Sjon.

...currently reading The Man in the High Castle.

This was a let down. Maybe I just missing the point or something. It seemed like everything was coming together for some kind of point or purpose at the end, but then it just kinda fizzled.

I'm 24th in line for The Haunting of Hill House. That's gonna be a while...
