Went to one of the local brewpubs here and they had a pils, a helles, a vienna, and an Octoberfest all on at the same time. I did a flight of them (and their hefe & English porter) in your honor & they were all pretty solid. I'm not up on the stylistic accuracy so can't speak to that, but all super clean.

It's called Heavenly Goat Brewing in South Bend/Mishawaka - got off to a pretty rocky start (not necessarily the beer but in running a business) but they seem to be getting their act together.

Wow, nice.  They must have heard people complaining that all brewpubs are serving nothing but Belgian bourbon-barrel, smoked kriek pastry stout with raisins and squid tentacles.  Sounds like my kinda place.

I know I've mentioned this but I have been to places where there literally is no choice that I would make.  Not even an IPA or plain old pale ale.  Every choice is a gimmicky concoction.  On the occasion I find a brewpub with options that interest me, often the choice I make is a beer like a pils, helles or other 'light' style that was poorly-made.  A few articles I've read mention that craft breweries often don't make these styles not because they want to make monster beers but because their processes aren't tuned well enough to make them they way they should taste.  I hate to send back beers but I have done it a couple of times... a helles that was absolutely horrendous (estery, phenolic, really clunky) and a blonde ale with no 'weird' descriptors like brett or 'belgian blonde', etc.  It landed in front of me and was really cloudy.  The aroma just stunk of funky, belgian-like nastiness.  I took a sip and ZOMG, so bad.  When she came back I asked her if she could replace it with another beer I have had there before... a pale ale that was much better.
