Well, I won’t claim it as my own idea but when I had to take gravity and pH samples at the first brewpub I brewed at, I had to figure out a way to cool down my samples, so I went to the bar and grabbed a shaker set. I’ve seen tons of other brewers do the same or very similar with an ice bath of some sort. Maybe you gave them all the idea. Not trying to be rude or dismissive, just saying it’s not like it’s some new idea you exclusively came up with. It’s the same concept as a bain marie but cooling instead of heating.

Didn't see this comment til now, but I used to grab a metal waterbottle and just throw the sample in some cold water or ice water.
Hell, when I would brew at the in-laws, I would just throw the bottle into their koi pond and come back in 5 minutes.
