Nothing to worry about. I think it can be pinned for a bit as we get off the ground and then we'll find a more effective way of sharing info with/from the people interested.

So to those that are a interested, but still don't understand some of the stuff we're talking about - this is a pen and paper game that we're setting up to play online. Essentially, you need nothing to play BUT you'd want to have the rules to you understand how to play, you need to develop a character or a gamepeice to play and a little bit about that player so you can interact with the environment and the story.

 

Fantasy grounds offer's us the way to play this pen and paper game on a game board online. GO will role out 2d maps and stuff that our characters will interface with. He might show us some pictures as we go through to enhance the experience, it's just a tool to facilitate the online side.

 

Discord is the method we're using to interact more freely and share what we're doing with others who are interested but aren't going to play. 

 

So we'll play within the structure of D&D but the game, or the specific challenges will be unique to whatever story we and our GM choose. After that, what we say to eachother, what we do in this game will be unique to us. As an example, I might come to the game with an alcoholic fighter. That will be my character for the duration or until he gets killed. I'll potentially play him true to the way that I've presented him to you. He'll rush into a fight, perform however he performs and maybe take a beating, but he'll talk a big game and if there's ever a bar in the story, he'll hit it hard. I mean you can do a shit ton of stuff. Some of us might not be totally comfortable dedicating a character to such a role and might take a more neutral approach until they get the gist - that's fine too. We can figure it all out together as we go.

 

So it's not a video game - yes you can potentially Leroy Jenkins, but first, you'll work with the GM to develop a character or use a base character build so you know you're not destined to fail. Second, the Adventure isn't going to be structured for a TPK (Total Player Kill - where everyone in the party dies) early on so you'll be able to develop your understanding of the game as we play to prevent that. And 3. Well I forgot 3, but it's just us playing a game dude. 

 

So right now, you can read the rulebook, make a quick gen character, give him the same backstory so that there's something motivating this character to get involved in whatever story we'll play in this game.
