Had an interview with a recruiter/headhunter today.

He guessed my salary based on my resume (which is not embellished) and was accurate within 5k.

That feels good....

When people guess my yearly earnings, they're off by a factor of 10. In the wrong direction.

Aim low, hang lo

Recruiters are scum.  (forgive me if we have any here)

i've had my profile open on linkedin since the first of the year or so.  I don't hate my job, but I'm largely topped out.  After 7 years, it's time to see what's out there.

One job, I went through 3 phone interviews.  Next step was a VP and likely then an offer.  All of a sudden the travel requirement went from 20%, but based 20 miles from my house, to 100%.   WTF?  Rep I talked to from the company said that had been a requirement all along... the recruiter had conveniently photoshopped that line out of the job description.

Another, a local company, I killed the interview.  To the point that one of the interviewers called me to tell me so the next day.  I didn't get the job.  That doesn't bother me.  Certainly not as much as the recruiter never bothered to return my call beyond the one interview followup call. Feck that guy with a rusty spoon.  At least give me some feedback.

Recruiters aren't worth much unless they are internal to the company.

And regardless of whether they are internal or external, when he "guessed" your salary range, I hope the 5 words out of your mouth were "You are in the range" and nothing more.

He was internal to the company. What he actually said was "the high end of the salary range for this position is $X... judging by your experience and skillset i'm guessing that's probably 20-30k below what you'd be looking for" to which I replied that he was correct...
