... I was watching this Netflix thing on WW2 and how all of Hitler's circle met up in beer halls and they were all drinking from THIS.  I ordered one and it arrived last week.  No, I won't be able to see my clear beer but it should work nicely for the Oktoberfest that's coming up.  I was hoping to find a Hofbrau one or maybe Augustiner but no luck... so this one is just plain.

It's Rastal and it was one of the cheapest versions that I saw.

Leave it to me to see a series on one of the most heinous and barbaric regimes in world history and my only takeaway is... Hey man, cool beer stein.

Germany is where I'm at, yo.

Also, I like this one and its simple design.  I don't care for the ones with the ornate design on the outside and the hinged lid and all of that.  I won't use this one often but I do look forward to using it.

Yeah.  In that general area they built an outlet mall, a casino, several hotels and then a pretty cool little restaurant area and the Hofbrauhaus is in there.  It's a sort of square/rectangle with a brick walkway around the square with bars and restaurants and inside the square is just a grass "infield" kind of thing with a park, benches, etc. and I think they have live music out there occasionally.

There is some weirdness in Rosemont.  I think there are some questionable entities in play there with the casinos, the airport is right there, the mayor is probably corrupt or connected... something like that.  The area itself is pretty nice but it doesn't feel "real" or organic somehow... you're in the burbs, you park in a parking garage and then walk to this artificial restaurant and bar area that just has a plastic feel to it.  It's not like going into Chicago but it's okay.  I've been to the Hofbrauhaus one time.  Maybe I was unfairly comparing it to the real one in Munich which would be a mistake.

Yea, Rosemont is a little weird. I actually went to high school with the kids from Rosemont. They all had a kind of skewed sense of work and entitlement.

And the whole fake restaurant area is kind of weird too.

That said, The beer at Hofbrau is still good! But those servers with their tiddies hanging out have absolutely no sense about beer. They serve 4 beers: Original, Hefe, Dunkle, and a seasonal. The last three times I've gone in and asked what the seasonal was, the response is, "Let me go check."

You work in a beer hall! Is it that hard to remember 4 beers!?   :banghead:

Yeah, I had the same issue.  The beer is brewed onsite and apparently to the strict standards of HB in Munich.  The beer is good, no question.  The food is not as great but TBH, I didn't order food in Munich... I just drank beer.  My guess is that had I ordered food in Munich it might be decent but it seems like it might be "factory food" because the place is so freaking huge and packed.  Multiple levels, indoor and outdoor, etc.  I did order food at the HB in Rosemont and it was passable but it seemed a little Americanized.

Seriously. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Nazis and thought I should follow their example :)
But I do have some steins. My grandpa gave me a nice Schulz and Dooley set and I’ve got a couple of painted ones. Never drink from them

all of mine are probably seconds.  nothing fancy at all in that they don't have the lid, ornate painting, etc.  similar to what drez showed.  I've got spaten, HB, lowenbrau and some others that i can't think of.  they look pretty cool but most of them are 1L which I'm less likely to use on the regular.

Okay, let's just say Germans instead of Nazis.  I've seen plenty of movies, travel shows, etc. showing everyday Germans in a beer hall drinking beer from a stein like this and I always thought... Gasta get me one of those ceramic steins.  I'm not planning any type of genocide if that's what you're worried about.  :P

Even when I was in ceramics in high school I wanted to make a big ass stein for myself. Mostly since I was really into the Lord of the Rings back then and I loved the hobbits were all drinking ale out of those ceramic mugs lol!

do they really spell out in the books what they are drinking out of?  I just finished the hobbit (reading to my son) and I don't recall there being much description of what they drank from.
