LOL.  I had one of those in the early 2000s, which was the last time a car I owned had a cassette deck in it...

Dude, I literally bought one of those converters yesterday.  Five bucks from Walmart to go in the Maxima.

states are beginning to pass laws about even having a phone in your hand now (even if you're not using it), seems like it might be worthwhile to consider just replacing that cassette deck with something that has hands-free/bluetooth capability

I looked all over and couldn't find a cassette anywhere to even test the thing, so I bought the adapter on faith that the player would work at all.  It did.

Just like we all used to do with our portable CD players, you just set it playing before  you start out.  Plus, as far as the iPhone she's using is concerned it's just another headphone.  She should be able to talk to Siri.

Replacing the audio system is a non-starter since it's completely integrated with both the navigation and heating/cooling control system.

Plug it into a headphone jack on any device, then insert the faux cassette into a cassette player.  It mimics the signal the cassette player needs to play the music.  Quality is not great by modern standards, but it's there.

That way you use the car speakers instead of headphones plugged into your phone.

You can also plug a portable 8 track player into it.

I thought someone your age would get this.  Maybe search AliExpress for an 8 Track converter?  :)

We still have two cars with cassette players- mine badly needs a paint job, but this would be useful.

Dude this is like ancient technology. It's the equivalent 8 track. Made for a transition period in car manufacturing and car electronics packages driven by customer needs.

Seriously this is a couple steps above 5 bare wires and some electrical tape.
