New show on PBS that is def inspired by no reservations/parts unknown.  There is only 1 episode available now but I guess they are doing 6 of them.  The host seems like a good guy.  I enjoyed it.  That mango sauce at the first place sounds excellent.

So is it a stand on it's own show? Or is it a No Reservations tribute or is it (shudder) a replacement?

I mean it looks like a good show. But I don't think it should be billed as anything to do with No Reservations. I just don't think you can replace Anthony and any attempt would seem cheesy. He just had a dynamic that was unique. Of course one is shaped by their experiences...

It isn't billed as having anything to do with it. That was just me saying it seems inspired by it. The first episode was dedicated to Anthony. I have to think they started making this show well before the suicide though.

It is Marcus Samuelsson. There is no way he would rip off Anthony, they were friends. He is one hell of a chef that was adopted to parents in Sweden from Ethiopia. He has spent his life mastering both countries cuisines and traveling everywhere.

I just think Anthony created a genre that allows other chefs to use as a platform.

There are a lot of shows like this where travel, food, culture, drink, etc. are explored.  It would be tough to say that someone was trying to copy someone else.  Three Sheets was my favorite.

Set it to record, but my PBS is only showing them once a week. Feckers!

Just to be clear I don't think he is ripping it off. It's just a similar show with a similar feel.

I'll probably check it out.  Travel + Cooking is usually pretty good stuff.

Watched the first episode. Forgot how long an hour's worth of content is when there was no commercials originally. Good first show.

I watched the New Orleans episode (was that the first?), but just barely made it through. Seems like he had the sam conversation with each person he spoke with.

Detroit was episode 1, and you’re correct, it’s almost the same thing in every city... Boring

bourdain's show was pretty much equally formulaic but this show is way more focused on the food part.

Bourdain was a fantastic storyteller though.
