A list of badass husbands that are true examples of what a man should be, is a list you ARE on, my friend.

Thanks, but I’d nominate your FIL for sainthood over me.

to be fair, we are outsiders looking in, there may be reasons for harsh treatment, could be well deserved

This. You all have no idea what has happened. And no idea what their arrangement is. A few days ago I posed a question in the vein of, “is it cheating if you have your significant other’s permission?” I don’t remember anyone on this board saying no.

Mind your own ####ing business.

Not sure if this requires clarification but my MIL is a sweet woman and I have known her for over 35 years.  My BIL is also a very nice guy and I went to high school with him.  My FIL on the other hand has given me many reasons over the years to simply ignore him and never talk to him again but of course I still do because I'm playing for the home team and don't want to make anyone uncomfortable for my own reasons.  Truth is that my FIL is a son-of-a-bitch who is never held accountable by anyone in the family unless I take him aside and explain his actions back to him at which point he tells me that I'm right and that he's having a bad day, etc.  He treats my MIL very poorly way too often.  I was not speaking about anyone else's situation... only my own.

Yeah, I would think I could walk that path but it's never been my only choice. I hope I never know.  From what I see here you are a good man and spouse.

Thing is, everyone has their limit, what they can endure and how long they can endure it. Why should anyone think less of another person because they’ve reached their limit?

I’m not trying to paint her as wrong, and I see a lot of valid reasoning in your words. I guess knowing her personally, shows me things you guys don’t know. Like her “it’s all about me” attitude...

My soon to be ex has been nothing but a bitch the last ten years. It took finding her correspondence with her latest boyfriend for it all to really sink in. I’ve allowed her to basically gaslight me into thinking I’m the whole problem, now suddenly she loves me and is willing to do anything to stay, sorry but that ship sailed right into the rocks a ways back.
Since the whole thing has come to light and I’ve essentially stepped clear of the relationship with the exception of the paperwork she suddenly is in complete denial that a divorce is really happening, or she berates me for being an abusive prick.
Anyone who knows me knows I’m pretty much the most helpful friendly fellow around and so many people have commented on her issues and affirmed my decision it’s crazy. It’s also been pointed out that I’m much more the old me again, which is nice.
She’s refusing to acknowledge that any of its real and is playing Suzy homemaker to the hilt suddenly.
Wednesday I meet with the attorney and will be having her served, the shit will hit the fan in a big way.
My 15 year old came to me the other day and said he doesn’t want her driving him around anymore since she is in his words buzzed all day long. Soooooo I’m having her removed from all my insurances and she’s gonna have to get her own problems solved too. Now I’ve got to get him into drivers ed and insured, that’s gonna sting.

Be careful with that, especially with health insurance.  I speak from experience.

Self insured on that front. I’ve got a concierge doctor at $70/mo and major medical
She can f right off if she thinks I’m paying her bills past this month.
I’m specifically referring to auto insurance. She can get her own policy and transfer the Jeep lease liability to herself ASAP.
Last thing I need is my rates going up more because she gets popped for a dui.

I think I would run that by the attorney today before you do it.
