Anyone have experience with this?  My daughter is in Australia student teaching for a couple months.  She's staying with a woman who brings in foreign students.  I want to send the woman money and she has given me various account numbers and other [unknown] numbers and I can't get my bank to accept these numbers.  We have our standard routing numbers and account numbers but her's don't match what ours look like.  Am I missing something small or is there some international banking barrier I'm up against?

A couple years ago, I transferred money from one of my accounts to the hotel in Tel Aviv I was staying at.  The only hitch was my bank calling me, while I was sitting on the bed in the hotel, asking me if I was the actual person attempting the transfer.

I tried this with my BMO account but whiffed.  I just tried with my BofA account and there was a very different "international" option that allowed me to enter some sort of BSB code along with the account number.  It's not our routing number + account number system and it looks like it worked.  I was supposed to send her $1600.  It asked me to select which currency... US or Australian.  I chose Australian and it turns out the 1600 AUS is only about 1250 US.  So I don't know if I sent the right amount or not.  I've never done that before.

PayPal

Never done that internationally before either... or have I?

The issue is that this lady is older and I'm not sure she has a PayPal account.  She asked for payment in unmarked gold pieces.  :D

If she has a bank account and an email, she can set up PayPal in a matter of seconds.

Yeah, but it's a matter of whether she will or not.  I also use Venmo.  I have this thing scheduled and we'll see if it works.  If not, I may ask her to set up a PayPal account just for ease and if she does this sort of thing often, it will come in handy for her.

Thanks PH.
