After these many years, my Shark has decided to punch out. So I'm in the market for a new one. I had a Dyson but as good as they are purported to be, I didn't really like it. I gave it to a friend of mine. Kind of an over priced appliance in which you are paying a lot for the name.

I have wood floors throughout the house with some occasional rugs. I really like Shark products.

So talk to me. What do you have that you are impressed enough with to recommend?

I went from Dyson to Shark like you. I'd go back to a Shark again. Love mine. Would have to look, but I'm sure that's fine.

My dad is a fan of canister vacuums.  Sits on the floor while you move the wand around.

Oreck is his latest brand.

Had kirby for years.

Miele.

German, high quality. I bought one after our Dyson started having issues. Big fan.

I’ve had bad luck with shark. I went through 3 or 4 in 10 years so I switched to Dyson. So far, it’s been better than the sharks.

we've got a shark also, with two dogs it gets used 2-3x per day on hardwood with the occasional throw rug.  we're happy enough with it.  I highly doubt i'd ever spend the kind of cash for dyson, those seem ridiculously overpriced.

We recently got a Shark IONFlex cordless and I am really impressed with it.  We have an older dyson too but the shark gets more use.  It helps that the kids like to use the cordless one!

I went with the Shark Rocket.

717QX2oueTL._SL1500_.jpg

Things I like:

>It will just about get under anything about 4 top 6" off the floor. Pretty much lays flat.

>Longer cord than most. I can span three rooms without having to unplug.

> Light. Turns on a dime.

>Picks up at the corners and walls better than most.

Things I don't like:

> It's light. Almost too light so it feels like one of those Family Dollar jobs you buy and it lasts about a week before it clogs up....yeah you know the ones. It's not heavy like my other Shark was so I guess I equate light with the cheap models but this runs like a solid champ.

> Smaller canister. Although I can do the entire house on one canister, if you had a fairly dirty rug like lots of pet hair and all, you'd probably have to dump it several times. I have hardwood floors.

> Doesn't stand up on it's own.

There are a couple more likes and dislikes but they have more to do with asthetics. I've been using it now for a little less than a month and I'm pretty impressed.
