Without ever tasting it, I can envision what it tastes like. This is from reading Great Lake's Dortmunder description and what a few of you Brothers have suggested. So I'm setting out to make a version of Golden Lager. Might have a little too much Munich and possibly 60 but it's a work in progress. Hoping to do this Memorial Day morning. Here's my initial idea.

Estimated OG: 1.050 SG, Estimated Color: 8.8 SRM, Estimated IBU: 24.7 IBUs

9 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 1 80.0 %
1 lbs 8.0 oz Munich Malt - 10L (10.0 SRM) Grain 2 13.3 %
12.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 Grain 3 6.7 %

1.00 oz Cascade [7.60 %] - Boil 20.0 min Hop 4 15.9 IBUs
0.50 oz Cascade [7.60 %] - Boil 10.0 min Hop 5 4.8 IBUs
1.00 oz Mt. Hood [6.00 %] - Boil 5.0 min Hop 6 4.1 IBUs
Slurry Omega Bayern 4th use

Slightly darker than planned and slightly more IBUs but looks good.  I'm not the best person to say because it's been awhile since I had that beer.

Swap out the 10-min additon of Cascade for Mt. Hood.  In my experience, Cascade is solely for bittering this beer, while Mt. Hood is employed for the late additions.

All else looks good.

10 SRM seems dark for this beer.  Seems like you want to be in the 6-7 range but I'm only guessing.

Actually, 10 SRM is right in the ballpark, especially when using Munich malt in the grist,

Wow, fellas I got wrapped up in life yesterday and am just now seeing this. Thanks for the great input!

Ken, assume your recipe is based on your efficiencies etc? I'm typically at 65% unless I mash overnight which yields me a couple few points.

Good suggestion. I do want to know Cascade is in this beer but I'm nervous it would also "Cascade" the flavor and because it's a Lager I want hop subtlety.

If you keep the Cascade to just the bittering addition, you'll get the slightest (and I mean, slightest) hint of Cascade.

That's the ticket to getting the hop character as close as possible to the commercial version.
