now I don't think this was the oxiclean but after I did a 'sanitizing" cycle which I've never used and it broke my dishwasher.  no joke!

What broke?

something electrical.  no response from the panel (lights, turning on/off, etc.).  this dishwasher is about 11 years old now so it was probably due anyway.

wow  sorry about that  how much oxyclean did you use? I've washed glasses by hand with oxy and a good rinse and had good results so I assumed the dishwasher would do the same.

about half of the detergent holder thing in the washer.  I think it just foams up too much for a dishwasher.  I don't actually think that is what broke my washer though.

Late to the thread here but I have used Oxiclean for dishes before. Threw about a 1/4 scoop into the bottom of the tub. Honestly I couldn't tell the difference between the Oxiclean and the normal detergent we use. Dishes looked great.

In the old days they would tell you not to use standard dish soap (Dawn, Joy, etc) in your DW because the foam would cause problems.  I admit that there have been times when we've been out of DW tabs and I used a small squirt of dish soap instead.  I have never used Oxi in the DW as far as I know.

Weird. Mine foamed enough that it was leaking out the bottom of the door. Again I don't see why this would break the electronics in the washer. In any event I got the new washer in and it has a little bit more room in it so that's a win. I also found out mine was not properly installed by the builder. There was basically nothing holding it in.

IME, Oxi granules don't all dissolve.  There are always some remaining when I drain a bucket or whatever.  I would wonder if those small granules got into something and hosed the DW.  But I would also wonder if a standard FINISH tab would completely dissolve or not.  Plus... there has to be some amount of small bits of food that end up in the DW that could cause the same issue.  There was a thread in the PH where people were saying they load their DW with completely dirty dishes... like straight from the table.  I have always heard you should rinse them off first.

The dishwasher was about 11 years old. It was a good weekend for it to fail since there were sales going on at Lowe's (memorial day weekend).
