Looking to buy my first one this weekend.   Any tips?

I've been watching a lot of videos on youtube and reading reviews.  I'm going mid range and only buying one.   Although i'm considering buying a cheap one that is more heavy duty for catfish.  we'll see what they have in store.

What is your budget? A Shimano Curado baitcaster for $250?

This is a pretty nice reel for the money.

Very adjustable, easy to use, minimal back lashes.

Even my wife has one.

I still use an Abu Garcia from the early 80's, thing is fecking bulletproof.  Also have a Pfleuger I got on a combo deal that is pretty nice.  I'd buy more pfleuger stuff, good bang for the buck.  don't overlook some of the bass pro house branded stuff, surprisingly solid stuff for decent prices.  if you have the cash you won't go wrong with about anything shimano if you have the coin...  Quantum is good stuff also

I'd buy this pfleuger in a second  https://www.basspro....t-baitcast-reel

agreed on some of the bass pro branded items.  I haven't been disappointed with any of their rods that i've purchased.

My grandfather used to have Ambassador reals.  They were pretty nice.  But, did I ever get to use them?  Nah, he got me a cheap Shakespeare with no drag.

Basser over on FaceBook seems to be somewhat of an expert on this subject. He has a few posts rebuilding and modding his reels.

Shimano Corvalis. I have a Corsair. They don't make those anymore but they were solid. Corvalis was top of the line then, now they aren't but still great reels and sub 100 dinero.
