Not the first mail order house/catalog. The first time someone advertised something for sale that was not face to face. The customer had to send money away and wait for the product. Anyone know? A quick search led to Montgomery Ward in 1872. Possibly Hammacher Schlemmer a few years prior. Anyone know of earlier mail order transactions?
