I have tried hop socks and the like for kegging and saw a hop ball like the one they sell at NB. So i picked it up . I have pellets that i want to use soon , it seems like it locks good. Any insight thanks.I will try to post both pic and link .Posted Imagehttps://i552.photobu...ich/hopball.jpg

I would not boil this, definitely a dry/ or keg hop situation.

I have something similar, probably the size of a baseball. I fill it with 1-2 ounces of whole hops and throw it directly into the keg for dry hopping. Not sure I would use pellets with mine, but mine has never come open in the keg.

I have used this in the keg for dry hoping .. it works pretty good. Just do not pack them in there to much or else the middle may not make contact with the beer.

It looks like it should work - is it SS? Only way to find out is to try it out!

It sure looks like SS to me. I usually just toss hops in boil, i would need two or three of these if i started using them in the boil. I read about only filling part-way from the NB site.I paid Like $6.95 for it by the way.

I would love to try that in the boil. I would assume that some of the fine hop schputz would still leak out of it, but maybe it would contain some of the larger pieces. Another local brewer here used a tea-ball for dry hopping. It's all SS and is not made of mesh like a strainer... it just has some slots or holes in it for steeping. Seems like a good solution too as it wouldn't clog a dip-tube in a keg or a ball-valve on a brewpot if you used it for boiling. Cheers.

I'm pretty sure those are SS. I don't see any reason not to use it in the boil - unless, of course, it was just chromed metal. The one from NB says it is stainless BTW

FWIW my wife uses those to make tea and it seems to work fine - would think it would be great for dry hopping...

I use one of these for dry hopping, never done it in the boil though, but I doubt it'd hurt anything.I've had one in a keg for a month with no bad effects. The lock on mine is really secure, doubt you could make it accidentally open. I've used pellets and whole, and would echo the advice to not over pack it, as the hops swell as soon as they hit liquid so I didn't feel like there was much flow through the inner bits. No complaints about mine, but I don't hop as heavily as many of you.

I've boiled them without a problem. The hops really expand in them so I never fill more then 1/3 of the way.

+1 on this.I've used in a boil with pellets - worked just dandy, though I pushed the limits on how much I put in. Stainless steel with a secure clip kept all where it needed to be.

Also, if you're going to buy another one or two, there's some bigger variations out there.one examplehttps://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Locking-Strainer-Infuser-Diameter/dp/B001AMQQDM/ref=pd_bxgy_hg_text_c

Is this significantly better than using a nylon mesh bag? This is what I have been doing for years, and I definitely get some hop particles that escape from the tied mesh bag. Something that I do that others may not though, is I keep it in the keg until it kicks (which can be over a year in some cases).

You'd need one about the size of a basketball to make anything with decent amount of hops. I just chuck them in the boil and whirlpool them out. Works great for me.

I put a vanilla bean in one for a keg of porter.
