So I got a pretty big compliment from someone who helped give me an opportunity to do some amazing work (she’s significantly above my pay grade). My reply:

Thank you for helping to facilitate an opportunity for me to use some of my skills on a subject matter I’m passionate about.

Do I come off as a kiss ass with that reply?

not at all. I think that's appropriate without more info that would make it otherwise.

I think the tone is fine, but to me it sounds too generic. If nothing else, maybe replace "facilitate an opportunity" with "enable," unless that word is just too loaded in your field.

Too many qualifiers for my taste.

Thank you for the opportunity to apply some of my skills on a subject I am passionate about.

Did you thank her for her kind words as well?

Yours is too wordy. Try something like this instead.

The word 'facilitate' sounds too cold and sterile. Warm it up a bit.

doesn't need to be so formal.  "thanks, glad I could help, I love doing this stuff, I owe ya a beer"
