So I cut the diptube of my corny and fermented in it. Closed transferred to an empty keg.

I'm never not doing it. I'm currently drinking a week old beer and it's well carbed and nicely clear. So Good.

I've been wanting to try some closed transfers but I need to find the right vessel for me.  10 gallon batches here.

Those red tops can close transfer :)

Eta: close transfers do indeed rock!

What is your volume in a 5 gallon corny?

I used to do 10 gal batches before I took a brewing break. Now, I'm going for 8 gal batches to get 4 in each corny to ferment. It's been awesome the two times I did it. So easy!

Do you use a blow off? I'm going to try and push my volume to 4.5 gals. with a sealed corny till the krausen subsides and then release pressure and install the spunding valve. I want to creep up to 5 gals and see what happens.

I suggest fermcap if you're going to try to ferment so close to the top of your fermenter..  You're going to have a mess of krausen blowing out I think.

How much pressure is created in a sealed corny keg during the first four days of fermentation?

I would think a lot more than you'd want to put the yeast under and also if the PRV got clogged there would be a risk of BOOM!

Just as a reference, I moved a beer with 2 points left and it was up to 30 PSI in a couple hours in the sealed keg.  I was spunding it so that was fine but a lot of CO2 is generated.

I agree with Morty that the pressure would not be good for the yeast.

i'm not surprised.  those little yeasties make a lot of CO2!

@mikegreen, I do use blow off connected to the gas out lines. I monitor them pretty closely, and so far I haven't had either reach the top, but that is a concern. Kind of the same reason I opted for blow off and not a spunding valve.. I can see the valve getting clogged and being a PITA much more than the blow off.
