I was brewing on Saturday and I moved a box of commercial beer (that I bought for a Superbowl party) in the garage and a bottle of Victoria fell out and broke on the garage floor. The aroma was amazing. I know I have gushed about this beer before but the character of that beer is outstanding and the yeast has to be a big part of it. So I ordered a pack of WLP940 and when my current blob of 2124 is retired I'll fire up the 940 for a batch of Hacienda Lager (Victoria-like), Cabana Lager (pale lager) and Bordertown Dark Lager (sort of a Negra Modelo) and probably some others. They should be hitting the taps sometime in the spring. Cheers.

You know I see Victoria at my store and always wonder if I should grab some. Next time there I will.

Don't have crazy, craft-beer expectations. It's a wimpy, 4% beer and many beer snobs will laugh at its simplicity. But grab a sixer and pour one into a glass and check out the color... it's got some color to it. Then take a long whiff of the aroma you get. I think that some of that is coming from the 940. It's a satisfying, refreshing beer especially in warm weather. I feel like the version I make is very close to the real thing (especially when made with 940) and fresher too. The yeast is also very versatile... pale, amber, dark, malty, hoppy, etc. It shines and beers like Victoria get my attention.

Great descriptors and totally understood. It sounds like a perfect boat or beach beer in line with my locale... I'll have to try the 940's soon.

Definitely a boat, beach, marina, fishing, swimming kind of beer. My wife and I went to Acapulco on our honeymoon (92) and then went back 10 years later for an anniversary. I remember walking along the main road along the beach and we went into one of those open-air cantinas that overlooked the water and we drank Victoria for the first time. We both thought it was fantastic and if I have any in the fridge my wife will drink them... she was drinking them on the SB too. I tried forever to recreate it and got pretty close and then in 2010 they started bringing it to the US for the first time. I may have to make TWO batches of it. Cheers.
