Saison isn’t Belgian? I thought it was from Wallonia?

As a lover of a good Saison, here's merely my thoughts: I think the decision of what a Saison represents makes more sense when looking at a map and seeing a Belgian divide; Dutch speaking Flanders and French speaking Wallonia.  At that point I think the style is owned by both cultures under the Belgian umbrella.  A farm is a farm is a farm regardless of language so Farmhouse beer seems a fitting name for the "style."  Which by the very nature of the term style, Saisons run the gamut.  How about "Franco-Belgian" :)

Maybe? I'm gonna have to pick up FA and do some re-reading. That book has a ton of input. Now I need to add a Saison to my upcoming's :)

French.  Although that means that Wallonia could be right, too.

Maybe we should just call it French-Belgian?  Now I just want to drink one or two, be nice on this 90+ degree day!

Saison beers are distinctive specialty beers from the Belgian province of Hainuat.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saison

As a beer style, saison began as a pale ale brewed in the cooler, less active months in farmhouses in Wallonia, the French-speaking region of Belgium

https://www.american...ll-is-a-saison/

Saisons hail from the Wallonia region in Belgium, which covers the southern part of the country and borders northern France.

Bit of an awkward discussion from an historical perspective.  Saisons have been around since the 1700s per FA.  Belgium did not exist as a country until it seceded from the Netherlands in 1830.  Which means the region of Belgium referred to as Wallonia would have been Dutch, not Belgian when the style was initially documented.  Side note: eastern Wallonia is largely German-speaking, not French. Clear as mud.

Definitely inspired to pick up the FA and dog ear it some more.

So it’s either Belgian or Dutch?
