This, to me, seems pretty big for a NE regional brewery. Hope they are able to hang on with a new owner.

Too bad. They have a nice brewery and make solid product.

I was only at the old brewery, have not made it to the new place.  Shame but I think this is the start of a new trend with these larger regional breweries.

everyone just wants to buy super local?  can't say I want that to happen.  at least half of my really local breweries aren't very good.

Interesting you brought that up.  I wonder how it is up where you are and elsewhere but I have noticed that customers do not seem to care if it is good or great these days.  They just want to #supportlocal #drinklocal etc.  I have been to a few new places that are down right awful yet they are packed and in a short time expanding.  I have just noticed a new culture of beer drinkers that snub there nose to anything that is not brewed within a short radius from them.

I don't interact enough with those types to really know for sure but there must be something to what you are saying up here as well or I don't know how some of these breweries survive.

It's the same here as well. I thought the whole point was to go drink good beer, I guess not. I just stay at home now and drink my own.

Sad to see, but the new facility wasn't cheap to build and they are only running at 50% capacity. Hopefully the brand survives without much change and maybe add some contract brewing to help.

I think they did some contract brewing, Nightshift if I remember correctly but I am sure they could have done a lot more.

indeed.  maybe I don't understand business (I know I don't) but why wouldn't they contract out most of their capacity to keep everyone employed?

No idea.  I have noticed that BBC ( Berkshire Brewing Company) has been brewing and canning beers for a start up and a brewpub latley.  They do not seem to be hiding that fact so I am guessing they see the market turn and people not purchasing their beer and are using their equipment for others to keep going.

5000+ breweries and only so much shelf space. It's a small bubble that's starting to burst right now. The small local guys will be fine if they have a decent location and good beer. I wouldn't want to be an expanding production brewery right now unless i was capitalized to the gills.

Agree with the bolded part since a lot of those do not take up shelf space here, you have to go to them to get it.  I see that Green Flash is also pulling out of several states.  A could years back all the big brewers in craft were planning second breweries on the east coast. I wonder how many regret that now.

Night Shift was doing contract brewing while they figured out there larger system at one point. But i think you may be right about that, I don't go there much nowadays and haven't talked to the founders in a bit.

Auction was today and bidding was not high enough so the bank held on to it.  Not sure what that says about the market and large breweries ... if anything.

Looks like the bank bought it at $8.25M.  I have $250 all set aside for it :)  There is speculation that the bank has a buyer for it.
