Just started heating 15 gallons of water and 1# of PBW in the brewkettle....

Aluminum brew kettle.  It looked gross with buildup all over the inside and element.  Aluminum oxide is good and bad.   Most of you wouldn't brew in it - my guess.  But all of that crud stayed in the kettle.

 

Anyway, great beer has been coming out of it but I don't want to push my luck.  I wish I had bought SS instead when I started up again.  And I wish I had just power washed it on a hot day in August instead...........

Did a similar thing a while back; my boil kettle is aluminum, and I was becoming concerned about the crud building up on the kettle interior.

 

Wasn't affecting the flavor or color of my beers, but I didn't want to press my luck, either.

 

Some hot water, some PBW, and a green scrubbie pad made short work of the (shamefully-thick) buildup.
