I had been planning for a while to start moving towards camlocks instead of the brass hydraulic quick disconnects I had been using. Found these on a classified ad on another forum for 100 bucks and jumped on it.  Looks like I will be spending a few nights re-working the system and installing these.

What exactly do these do? Looks like some kind of quick release for hoses?

Yes.  The ones I have now have a smaller inside diameter so they have less flow.  These will be nice since they are SS and have a higher flow.

I have about 6 houses right now so this will allow me some spare parts of build up a couple more hoses.

Haha. I saw those on HBT!

The only recommendation I can make is if you are interested in greater flow, is to purchase the 'Big C' camlocks. What you can see is that the barbs that are cast on these fittings is 1/2" OD, which makes for a much smaller port inside. The Big C ones have a full 1/2'' port all the way through so it allows a greater flow.

I bought mine before the Big C had been introduced, so I had to add them later.

I also have made a lot of adapter fittings with camlock fittings. I have an attachment for the air compressor to blow air through and dry out my counterflow chiller. I also have adapters that go from camlock to garden hose disconnects, as well as John guest fittings.

Brewhardware also has some interesting camlock fittings that I plan on getting in the near future (camlock to ball lock liquid, camlock to female flare, etc.). If you are going to get the big c camlocks, I'd recommend to get them through brewhardware, and add the extra adapters to have on hand if you think you'll find them useful.

Brewhardware also has a camlock flow sight glass that I've been eyeing for a long time too to add to the outlet of my pumps and counterflow chiller.

If I was buying them all new I was going to go with the Big C version but these will still improve my flow.  The only place where I may want to change up and go with the bigger one is for my whirlpool.

I have seen that sight glass and thought about it a few times.  I may try and build my own first before I drop the money on his.

Now I just need to get all my old ones together and try and get a few bucks for them.

I thought I'd post a picture of some of the adapters I've created:

38583628375_e06d87459c_c.jpg

I made these to be able to essentially connect any of my tubing and connectors to each other. I needed to be able to flush fresh water through my pumps and silicone tubing, as well as into my beerline, to be able to pump into my beerline, etc. It may inspire you with what you can now do with all of those fittings! the one on top is actually made to have an inline thermometer probe to check the temperature of the wort exiting the chiller.

I've been thinking about that sightglass ever since he dropped hints about it. I have never pulled the trigger on it though - mostly because if I do decide to go with it, it would only make sense for me to buy 3 of them, which then makes it a $100 investment, and I'm not ready to do that quite yet.
