I have 1469 and Omega West Coast working for me now. The 1469 is finishing up an English Bitter and the West Coast is on this "Goldings APA". I'm going to make an amber ale but my hop choices are limited because all the other hops in my freezer are already slated for something and I don't want the amber ale to be fruity (Amarillo, Citra, etc). So I'm going to bitter with Nugget, add some late Nugget and then use 2 ounces of Glacier and then DH with two ounces of fresh EKG that I got from YCH. I'll probably use 1469 on that. I want to make a blonde ale with Swaen Pale Ale malt (and probably some wheat) and bitter it with Horizon and then add two ounces of Crystal pellets late and use the West Coast for that. Then I have this late El Dorado + Lemon Drop beer (not sure which yeast) and something with Apollo, Azacca, Loral and Ella. I'm going to vary the grists but it will mostly be Swaen Pale Ale malt + some amount of wheat and then varying amounts of CaraRuby, Crystal 40-60-80 and maybe some Special B in there somewhere. The SRMs will range from probably 6-7 up to about 12-13. Also, that Cashmere Pale Ale will be in there somewhere probably with 1469. I think these are going to be stellar beers with some surprises along the way.

I'm down with the Nuggets and curious how you like them. I have a bag and consider it as a bittering hop. Do you like what it does later in the boil?

I do occasionally have MO and GP in the brewery. If I have it, I save it for English styles. But I'm not likely to buy a sack of it. I'm more likely to buy a sack of Rahr Pale Ale malt or another Pale Ale malt which has a bit more character and depth than your standard 2-row. I did have about 20-25 lbs of both MO and GP last year and it was great in the bitters and pale ales I made.

This was a $5 pound of Nugget pellets that I got from YCH or YVH. I have used them later in the boil and the character is very nice... someone else mentioned liking them late as well. Here, I'm using them to boost the late-hop character and to hold hands with the Glacier which is a great, underused and underappreciated US hop variety, IMO. I'm envisioning the Nugget + Nugget + Glacier + EKG (DH) combo to work well together in an amber ale made with 1469.

Got it. I must have missed those recipes.

I don't necessarily think that a "pale ale malt" is going to be just like MO or GP... it might be somewhere between standard 2-row and MO/GP. I don't know enough about this Swaen Pale Ale malt yet to know how it would be for English styles which is why I want to make a simple blonde ale with it where the vast majority of the grist is Swaen Pale Ale. From there I can determine how best to use it.
