I've had visions of this Live Oak Amber Lager (a Vienna Lager of sorts but seemed like it had a touch more going in the hop department, brewed in Austin, TX) dancing in my head and I'm going to make one more lager with this S-189 before heading off into ale-world. This is basically the grist for my Oktoberfest but with some CaraMunich 1 added and some noble hops at the end. The last hop addition will either be steeped with the lid on for 15 minutes or added to the 175° whirlpool. Water will favor chloride (65ppm cl, 35ppm SO4). That 50-minute boil time is a goof... since corrected.
One more Amber Lager before I retire this S-189...

Looks solid to me.

I hope it's solid. I'm envisioning a drive straight down the middle of Amber Lager Lane with this one. Malty but with some extra hops, a medium-amber color, packaged in 1933 stubby bottles and only available for the holidays! I'm calling it Ken's Volstead Act Repeal Beer!

I put this keg on tap this afternoon after my 19-yo son (or as I call him, Sudsy McBeerington) killed my keg of Marzen last night. This beer came out very nicely. Rich, malty backbone but the late noble hops give you a little tingle in the finish. Very much what I envisioned and I'll try to snap a pic of it soon.
