So who's going to be the first to try Budweiser 1933 Repeal Reserve?

... and admit it? :D

Forgive me if I'm not overly excited but based on past efforts (anyone remember Budweiser American Ale?)... it will probably miss the mark. But if anyone tries it, please report back.

the American Ale tasted like budweiser with some dark crystal malt

There used to be a offshoot of AB that made some decent 'craft' beers... I remember a sampler of beers in uniquely-shaped bottles and there was a pale ale, a marzen, a pilsner, maybe a porter... I can't remember. Maybe they were all labeled as Michelob products. They were decent. Otherwise the AB products [in general] are abysmal.

Looks like an AB marketing gimmick to me.....wait that stands to reason for all their beers. You can count me out on trying it. The only way is if I went to a party and that's all there was to drink.

I've never turned down a free and cold Budweiser. I'm game.

The thing is... the words "amber lager" get me right in the tasebuds every time. It's a wide-open beer style and it covers a lot of territory. But my guess is that the execution is off in this case and that's just based on past experience. The fact that it says "a rich caramel-malt taste" is off-putting because these guys seem to overdo the crystal/caramel in their attempts at craft beer. That doesn't mean it's bad... it just means I'm not holding my breath. If I see a sixer of those stubbies and it's not more than say $10, I might try it.

Some people who have tried it appear to like it... CLICK.

Yes, if I see the same (pricewise) I'd hit it. Agreed on the apprehension regarding over the top malt. I have so been straying away from those types of beers, rather reaching for and making cleaner and crisper beers.

So I just left the grocery store with the intent of picking up a 6 of this yet to be determined swill and it's not here yet. However we need beer at the office and St. Paulie's on sale for $10 a rack. Sweet.

Some of the BeerAdvocate entries that I linked to are dated July 2017. If this beer was supposed to be a "holiday season" thing, I don't understand how it was out and available in July. I guarantee you that I would not drive around looking for it. If I saw it, I might consider it but to waste gas... no, sir. :D

Brulosophy should pit this stuff up against a home-brewed amber lager and see if anyone can tell a difference. Id also be curious to see the preference data.

The more I brew the more I am leaning away from heavy amounts of crystal. Not sure that this beer has a lot of crystal but the ad suggests it. I have not used things like C60, 80 or 120 in a very long time. I do use the British crystal like Thomas Fawcett and I will sparingly use CaraMunich, CaraVienne (CaraRuby), Special B, etc. but it's far less than I used to. I'd rather use Munich and Vienna mixed with Carafa. Something tells me that most beer geeks will try this and dislike it but the reviews I linked to suggest the opposite.

It is true!

Carafa II and III and Midnight Wheat have been my go-to adjustments with just about all of my non yellow beers as of late.

I didn't mean to turn this into a homebrew recipe thread but I notice that many commercial beers are still loaded with crystal and if the process (higher mash temp, lower attenuating yeast) is poor then the beer really suffers from it. I've had a lighter touch with it and I try to make my beers finish relatively dry so I don't have that sweet, overly-malty finish. The Bud American Ale was kind of clunky that way and the fact that you can no longer find it tells you something.
