7 lbs extra light DME
1 oz brewer's gold @60min left in boil
1/2 oz crystal hops @15 min left in boil
1/2oz crystal hops @5min left
I boiled 3 gallons of water on the stove in one pot, about 2.25 gallons in another.
When the first pot came to a boil I added the hops. When the second came to a boil about 30 minutes later (planned) I took it off the heat, dissolved about 2/3 of the extract in there and held it at about 175.
When the hop boil was done I added the rest of the DME to the hops pot and then once it was dissolved I cooled both pots in ice baths until they hit about 90dF and then poured them both into the fermenter. Pitched some (used a starter) American Ale II yeast once it had cooled to 72f which took several hours. It has been fermenting vigorously, we'll see what it's like. Samples have tasted good so far.

That should work. Pretty light even compared to what I've been brewing lately. You probably could have cut the boil time down even more by upping the BG addition.

were you boiling the hops in water instead of wort? I thought people always added some extract at the start.

I don't see why you would have to have extract in for the whole boil. I would guess your hops utilization increase the later you add the extract.

I thought you need some sugars for isomerization, I always did 1/2 at the start ad half right at 15 minutes.
this thinking is likely out moded
