A I mentioned in a previous post I was planning on using some coffee malt in an old recipe I have.  I went with 2#'s or 14% of the grist as coffee malt, not sure what to expect but fingers crossed.  I hope to get this brewed sometime before the end of the month.

Looks interesting man. It gives me inspiration and a nudge to knock out a nice winter porter in the next month or so. Keep us posted.

I have brewed this beer before but instead of he coffee malt I had some C-60 and C120 in there.  I figure with the Coffee Malt being 151L and adding in some lactose I really will not miss the crystal.

Never used lactose but I just added it to my order list because of you.

Simpsons or MFB on the coffee malt? Should be a very roasty beer with 3 pounds of roast malt in 5 gallons of finished beer plus coffee.  Might be exactly what you are going for, not sure. I'd like to hear the tasting notes when its finally ready.

Franco-Belges Kiln Coffee Malt - This malt will deliver subtle chocolate and coffee flavors and aroma.

I assume it will be roasty, I expect the lactose to help a bit by adding some sweetness but we will see.

On the half pound of lactose, say you find it's not sweet as you wanted. Can lactose be added to a finished beer or a beer that's on it's way to terminal gravity?

I am not sure to be honest.  I will have to research that.

I've used it.  not sure I could have picked it out but it def did not ruin the beer in any way so I think it will be good
