I agree that the paper had a tone to it and it truly turned me off. I had some contact with a number of those guys and some of it was fine and quite a bit of it was not good. I was always open to the idea of it (many here were not) but what I wanted to do was find my own way through it but when I talked with some of the GBF guys about it they were so rigid about everything. I mentioned a few things that I did with SMB, BTB, etc. and they basically just laughed at me when I told them about some of the steps I had taken. I haven't really had contact with them since.

Slight derail, but that's some straight-up bullshit, bush-league behavior right there.

Another reason why this beer forum is my preferred one; i don't ever recall anyone here treating a fellow brewer like that.

Yeah, I don't mean to derail. I was a moderator in that FB German Brewers Forum and the one other moderator (creator of the forum, I think) was cool with me. I mentioned another person who just came off as very unpolished and the guy agreed with me but said that the guy was okay. There were a number of weird encounters over there and Schwanz was involved in one and I was trying to defend him but lost that battle. Then the main guy plus the guy I didn't care for basically laughed at me and were having fun at my expense and I honestly have not participated in the FB group or the forum since. I definitely don't need that. What was funny about it though is that I was open-minded about it. I told these guys that I was interested but if I didn't follow every step or if I did anything other than what they said, I wasn't in the club. So, I'm not in the club. :D

Sounds familiar.   The lowoxygenbrewing forum is a much friendlier place.   Much more about sharing ideas than criticism.  Like this place.

"I'd never belong to a club that would have me as a member." ~ WC Fields.

Any one that would scoff at a fellow brewer instead of welcoming their ideas and sharing their experience or knowledge can suck it. That's why I love it here with you's guys. There's none of that.

For clarity, I'll mention that the guys over there did give me a lot of information and at some point would say, "Just try it" without being dicks about it. But the number of times that they were condescending and judgmental is too many to count and that's when I decided to jump away from all of that. If someone were to say, "I tried this and that and I can't believe the difference in my beers! You guys should try it!" that's fine. But there is a really critical vibe in that camp and I think we've all experienced it.
