So as not to hijack the hop order thread, I thought I'd start a new one to discuss what I found in the freezer tonight.  FWIW, these were from my -5F deep freezer, that I almost never open.

Here's most of what I could dig out. (I threw a few smaller bags into the trash before I decided to take the pic and wasn't going to go digging for them...}

From the back left we've got:

4 oz of home-grown Glacier in a ziplock bag.  Totally dried out an worthless. Smells like freezer and nothing.  Trashed.

20 oz of Amarillo leaf 9.5% probably 2009 harvest.  Original, unopened alum mylar.  Didn't open, but definitely keeping.

9 oz of Liberty leaf 4.4% probably 2007 harvest.  Open, but resealed alum mylar.  Green and soft, sticky, smells good.  Probably keeping.

12 oz of Mt Hood leaf 4.4% probably 2007 harvest.  Open but resealed alum mylar.  Green and soft, sticky, smells good and spicy.  Keep?

8 oz of Willamette leaf 5.5% 2008 harvest, probably.  Open but resealed mylar. Green and soft, sticky, smells good.  Keep?

Middle:

15 oz of Columbus pellets 14.0%,  Open, resealed alum mylar. Pellets hard, firm and intact, smells good. Keeping.

2-1/2 oz of Warrior leaf from 2005! 17.4% Two oz in original unopened alum mylar and 1/2 in repackaged vac bag.  Didn't open but plan to keep at least the unopened portion.

Front:

3 oz of Glacier pellets 5.8.  In resealed regular plastic, but inside another bag.  Pellets are firm and smells really good.  Going to give it a shot.

Various little ziplock from the LHBS (see below) all trash

Bottom right:

16 oz of unknown pellets.  Definitely from Hops Direct, and probably from 2010-ish.  Original alum mylar, vac-sealed hard as a brick, perfect pellets inside and smells great.  My guess either Centennial or Amarillo.  (It smells more like Centennial to me w/o a side-by-side test, but I was really infatuated with Amarillo back then and it's quite likely I would have bought Amarillo...Although I DID have that unopened bag of Amarillo leaf...)  Definitely keeping this one, but taking a sample to the LHBS to play Guess-The-Hop and try figuring out what it is.

Trashed and/or not pictured:

1 oz Columbus pellets

1 oz Ahtanum pellets

1/2 oz Horizon pellets

3 oz Spalt

1 oz Amarillo leaf from 2005 that I vac-sealed.

3 oz Willamette leaf that wasn't sealed at all.

8 oz of Crystal in an open alum mylar bag, just folded over

Looks like my first instinct is to keep more than I'd thought, and I'm curious what you guys think. These are not young hops, by any means, but their storage conditions have been about as optimal as can be absent liquid nitrogen.

The Amarillo, Columbus, Warrior and unknown (definitely American something) I can use for APA.  The Mt Hood and Liberty can make Dotted Cows for me. Willamette is there if I want to make a stout or something.

What do you think?  Would you use them?

And just so you smart-asses know: the previous owner labeled the light switch, not me. :P

I would use any of the unopened pellets. I cant speak to the leaf as I have never used leaf of any age.

Pellets - agree with Neddles, would use any of them.

Whole - only way to know is to open, give a look/sniff, and decide.  If they look weird or smell off (old socks, cheesy, etc), trash 'em.

I've got too many hops and no time to brew. I threw out about 5 lb before the hurricane.
