It's too high if you wanted a lower FG for that grist.


I'm just surprised that it didn't get lower all things considered. I was thinking 1.014-1.016. I guess I'm not that far off. I also thought mash temp want supposed to not be that big of a factor.

I think the effects of mash temp can be somewhat grist dependent as well. Either way I think your yeast is perfectly fine but thats really just a conjecture on my part. Do what you are comfortable with.

I think you are right the yeast is probably good.  all other things point to that.  fast to start and fermented at a pretty good clip.

This beer is much better after a few days of conditioning. Very smooth but also very roasty. The Mt hood might have been a little too old to provide a lot of hoppy umpf but there is still a nice hope aspect to the beer.
