Your Pale Ales are much different than what I see here.  We have very simple grain bills, low hoping rates but a huge amount of hop aroma and flavor hops. Oh and you can not see through them.

indeed.  the general idea is to have simple grain bills so that the specialty grain flavors don't cover up the hops flavors and aromas.

that said I wouldn't mind going back to something like denny's RIPA which has way more crystal than I would typically use these days on an IPA.

I occasionally see some pale ales with more color like they may have been years ago. I think that the Mirror Pond Pale Ale is that way. I had some at a street fest earlier this year and I was surprised at how much color it had although I do like that beer and I have no issue with it being that color. It seems like many pale ales got away from maltier grists and darker colors in the past few years and I have gone that way as well. Bottom line is that if the beer is well-balanced and properly made and you could have a number of them without having an issue with the flavor and the hop level, I'm down. :D

I have not brewed RIPA in a long time, maybe it is time to get a batch planned.

I just made Denny's RIPA late last fall and was ready around Christmastime.  Dang... that was a good one.

I'm usually not one to make a super hoppy beer because I tend to gravitate towards lower IBU's.  It's not that I don't like them... I do.  But I'm not sure I can drink 5 gallons of the stuff (SWMBO doesn't drink beer).  So... I'll get commercial stuff if I want a hoppy beer.

George, when you were up here in Wisconsin drinking New Glarus beers, did you try Moon Man?

I don't remember if I tried Moon Man or not.  I probably did get it as part of a make-your-own 6er.  I know I got Bubbler and Two Women, and I know I did NOT get Naked, but I just don't remember Moon Man.  Also got that accidental Scream IIPA and the on-purpose Berliner Weisse.

Two Women is very good. Moon Man is great when you're in the mood for that fruity APA thing. Totally Naked is nice when it's warm outside and their Staghorn Oktoberfest is also very nice.
