My 13 year old has a loft bed. It is heavy over built with a built in dresser and desk. We purchased it used for 250 when he was 6. It probably has 500+ in lumber plus a lot in labor.

He wanted a normal bed.

So my wife offered it to a friend of hers for 100 (w/o the mattress). Personally I would have sold it for what we paid.

They said they would pick it up sunday.

So I took it apart enough to transport on Saturday night. Moved in to the garage. Taking up my spot. they didnt show up Sunday. They said they would get it tonight. It is 9pm it is still in the garage, and my car in the driveway.

I am ready to put it back together and put it on Craigslist. But long term it could take longer to sell. It will also make my wife mad.

Now they are good people and they have 5 kids that play sports, scouts etc. So they probably have stuff every night. They might of also needed to do prep work in what every room they are going to put it in.

But I just want normal expectations. So I can have may garage back. I had a project I wanted to do Sunday night but I can't because the space is occupied

Preach it. Whatever happened to common courtesy? No joke, people need to get some damn manners these days.

When I go to sell something like this, I post it fairly cheap so it'll go quickly. Then I'll take a low offer contingent upon quick pickup. In this case I'd tell your wife to have them get it now, or it's going on sale for closer to what it's actually worth.

Either that, or I'd load it up and haul it to Goodwill because selling this kind of stuff is a PITA and rarely worth the time.

3 strikes and you are out.  They need to commit to coming like tomorrow night at a specific time to pick it up.  Otherwise, you need to move on and sell it to someone who will actually pick it up.  The price is a favor to them.  If they have 5 kids, they probably are strapped for funds but want to provide something nice.  But that's no excuse.

Set their expectations.

Invite the family over for smores. Watch their faces as you burn their kids bed in front of them. And enjoy smores.

Received an apology that they can't make it work with the space and they were sorry for the delay.

I reassembled it and it is now on Craigslist for 250. There is a bed tat is similar listed for 500 (they said they paid 1000). Several in the 150-200 range but they do not have built in desk / shelving / drawer.

We shall see how quickly I start cutting the price to get my garage back

I'll give you $10 for it.

Can you deliver?

That's exactly why I've never sold anything on Craigslist, and rarely sell anything- giving stuff to Goodwill, Kidney Fund, etc. avoids almost all of the hassle, and the tax deduction probably comes close to whatever I would get for anything that is not just junk.

We sell stuff on Craigslist, but it's usually livestock.  Fastest way to get rid of unwanted animals.  Usually it's gone in days with no hassle.

i'd give them a call and let them know politely that you need it gone by a certain date. after that date, i would put it on craigslist. if they stop by to pick it up before it is sold, good for them. otherwise, oh well.

Sure, you can have this one when I'm done with it. Just gotta come pick it up.

Among others, you'll be mad at whoever suggested trying Ezra Brooks bourbon. Pretty damn good, and only $13 a bottle.
