I'll be in Seatle next week, staying in the downtown area with no car. Any recommendations for beer venues in that area?

The guys that have the best beer store in the area run this place... Normally 40 of the 60ish taps are all Belgian beers but right now they are running a barleywine fest and that is taking up a lot of their taps. Personally I would skip pike since I've never been that impressed with their beers. However, Brouwers is worth it's weight in beer gold.

We were in Seattle a few years ago.We stayed close to Elysian Brewing and I dragged the wife/girlfriend up there the last night we were in town.Great food and good beer. I wish we had gone there more often. Funky kind of place with a great mix of people.

I agree on both those statements but I was just pointing it out since its smack in the middle of town and also in case he was doing the obligatory pike place market. Have you ducked into feierabend yet? Smaller place with a lower selection but it has a good amount of german lagers on tap you normally wouldn't get and some seemingly authenticish food. If I need to hit up the REI flagship and have time for lunch/beers I like hitting that place since its 2 blocks north.

I forgot about that one since I'm not a huge amber fan but everyone that visits seems to really enjoy that one too.

My son works there as a bartender (and at Prost!). There are 2 sister pubs, Die BierStube in the U-Disctrict, and Prost! in West Seattle.If you want a good bottle store, check out Bottleworks. Nothing but beer - 950 different kinds.

I have a pretty good imitation of this on tap right now. I could give you the grain bill but I kind of winged it with homegrown hops, so I don't really have a recipe.

Yeah, I've got a clone that I'm trying to nail down, not so much as a clone but as a house amber (actually I have an uncarbonated keg in my chest freezer right now). My friend and I used to both live in Seattle but now we're both in NY, and this was his favorite beer. I'm pretty much spot on for the color (at least what we remember the color to be) but there was too much residual sweetness in my previous attempt, need to cut back on some crystal I think.Mack & Jack's is a great session beer, and it's all over Seattle too. To the OP, if you like pool, checkout the Garage up on Cap Hill/First Hill. They definitely used to have Mack & Jack's there.

I'd guess at least since it's founding in mid-1800s, but probably even earlier when white men tried to spell the name of the Chief afterwhich the city is named. Enjoy the trip, I need to make it back there at some point.
