Cool. I will probably be looking for one of your recipes to break my lager cherry. Got some 34/70 for the yeast. Going to start simple.

good luck, but with that yeast, if you follow a proven recipe, you'll do great

I'll just say for the record: As long as I don't need something RIGHT NOW, it would be hard for me to not order from LP. If I can have it sent to my door for less than it would cost me locally, why wouldn't I do that? 50-pound sacks of [really good] malt for $37 is not a local option for me, no sir. I would wait for their 40% off sale and get what I need.

I assume that all you guys have seen the Black Friday Label Peelers sale. Various percentages off of wine and beer kits but also 36% off site-wide. Just to check, I went on there and a 55lb sack of the Swaen Pils is $36... again, cheaper than I could get a good sack of pilsner malt for locally even if you include the shipping.

Dang. So tempted to buy some Swaen pils and brew the german pils with it using my MJ M76 harvest then compare it to Castle.

Do it bro. $36 for 55 pounds of good pilsner malt? That's 65¢ a pound! For the love of man... order it! :D

Still have not used the Swaen I bought yet, soon, but at 0.89/# with no shipping I had to get it.

It's not the type of thing you have to do if you're already loaded with grain because LP seems to run these sales often. But it just seems like the thing to remember when the time comes because it's literally cheaper for me to order from them and have it shipped right to my door than for me to go pick it up locally.

The LP is not really a deal for me after shipping. I was able to grab the malt at a hbs that was having a bulk buy. I live too far east to make the LP grain deals a real deal.

Ends up being $1.10 for me after shipping. Local LHBS is $66 for Avangard after 10% extortion sales tax.

Do you like Swaen better than Avangard?

Will have to keep this in mind.

A bag of Swaen pils, incl. shipping, comes to ~$0.98/lb for me.

On par, if not cheaper, than my LHBS.

My local suppliers have gotten a little steep on bulk grain prices and maybe it's because a number of other places won't even sell it that way. When you walk into some suppliers and ask for a full sack of something, they wince and tell you that they would be out of that product if they did that. As a result the places that have large racks filled with various sacks of grain will have a 50lb sack of Rahr 2-row for $64 or something. This is much better malt and much better pricing.

B2000: I would think that your shipping cost would be among the lowest that we would see in our group here.
