Got an email from the AHA that if you join (beertown.org) you'll get a free copy of Palmer's "How to Brew." You will need promo code TAF2009 to qualify.

Wow, great deal.

Seems a little steep for the membership I think if we are talking about an individual brewer. It seems like the majority of their useful benefits are for small breweries. Am I missing something?

You also get a subscription to Zymurgy and discounts at breweries through out the country. Make sure you click on AHA and not the "Brewer's Association," which is the interest group for pro-brewers.

Isn't it only $35?

I consider it a no brainer. The mag is nice and the occasional discount makes it worth it to me. We don't have many places around here that will give the discount. But I've found that the card will open doors because they are confused/awed that I have a brewery in the basement. Then most times a free pour follows. And then you usually get to talk to the brewer, etc.,........

I think I'll have to do this...I also just re-upped my membership for next year in the ASBC (American Society of Brewing Chemists). I don't work for a brewery, but as a chemical engineer and homebrewer, I'm fully qualified to be in it!

I joined up. I believe this is the first time I've been a member of the AHA in the 11 years I've been brewing. Thanks for the heads up, passlaku!

You guys are making it easier for me to decide to join up with the AHA. I am a longtime BYO subscriber and have debated the $35 but I think their website is great and I can always use another beer brewing Mag. I will have to join up sometime soon. I would like another reference book and I know How to Brew is a good one too.
