how low to the ground should I cut these bad boys off? I plan on loosely covering whatever is left with a little bit of mulch. Anything else I should do this year?

I cut mine back to pretty much ground level....although I usually don't get around to it til spring.

I've read that you should cut them to about one inch below surface level. That's what I do.EDIT: MolBasser - FSMism! Gotta love it....

I would recommend for you to leave them up as long as the leaves are green. As long as they are green, they are still supporting the root system, and will give you better growth and an improved harvest next year. I have read that it is up to a 30% improvement compared to if you just cut them down during harvest. This is my first year growing hops, and my bines are still green, so as long as they are green, I will keep them up.

too late! I cut them down yesterday. I don't think it's too bad though b/c the top half the plant was looking pretty much dead and we've been getting frosts 2-3 times a week for the past couple weeks.
