Just curious if anyone knows the cheapest way to get wyeast or white labs.

I just paid $8.99 at my LHBS for white labs pure pitch.  This seems expensive but then I realized that it's even more than that after factoring in shipping from B3.  I usually don't need specialty grains or anything so what is the cheapest source once shipping is included?  I know the shipping is ball park but at B3 for instance I was looking at about $7.00 just in shipping.

if I want to drive 20 mins out and 20 mins back I can get wyeast for $6.99.  unfortunately I don't have much other reason to be near that LHBS.

Rite is 5.99 for Wyeast.  You will have to add a few more thing to make shipping worth while.

that seems to be everywhere.  if my yeast needs align with the weather and my other ingredient needs online makes a lot of sense.  if I just need some yeast.... not so much.

I have not bought white labs in a long time so no idea where that is cheap.  I have started to save my yeast or just go back to dry for most things.

with 10 gal batches I've been trying to use a liquid yeast 2 times and then it's done.  I don't want to try to keep it around long term even though I used to have pretty good luck doing that.

I have been overbuilding my starter and saving part and each time just over doing it again for the next starter.  So far so good.

that's what I used to do.  the time between starters was getting to be too much though so I stopped.

That's why I stopped as well. But I wonder how long is too long?

I've made starters with about 500ml of reserved starter out of the flask before crashing the rest to pitch.  Probably the oldest has been 4 months kept under 40df.  Didn't step up.  Dumped it into another 2.75L  of starter wort and reserved another 500ml.  Worked here.
