Ok fellas. I'm going to do something I haven't done in many years and that is to follow a set recipe in BYO. I really like the SN Torpedo. Picked up some Citra from Freshops and I'm ready to roll. Problem is the BYO recipe calls for a late addition of Magnum and to dryhop with a blend of the Citra. I do have a hopback and im still pondering whether to use it or just dryhop. The hopback will require alot more hops for that process to work well. Doing a 15-20g batch.I'm not sold on using the Mag's in this manner. Btw, I have Gr. Mag's. Anybody here used them late and if so, what are your impressions?Cheers..........

I would think you would want Yakima Magnums for late, but I've never used German or US Magnums in this way...

My experience is that the 2 are indistinguishable.FWIW, my only Magnum dry hopping experience would lead me to believe that it isn't a great idea. But if SN does it, then what the hell....

if the price of hops were going up i would say perhaps split the batch and see how it works out.but at the prices now ... go for it. Torpedo is a great beer. let me know how it turns out. I made a Citra hop American Wheat like Gumballhead using all Citra rather than all Amerillo. very Nice. :rolf:

Yeah. I was thinking about ditching the late Mags all together and just using the Citra. Personally i don't like firing up the rig to do less than 15g. 20-24g is preferred. Takes just a few minutes longer than a 10g batch.

I've used Gr. Magnums for some late additions and I think some FO additions this year. I remember that it seemed like a waste of AA but they smelled great. I'll have to look at my notes tonight to see when I used them and how it turned out.

Well it was an APA brewed in February, nothing remarkable that I remember. 1oz at flameout but that was only about 10% of the grainbill.
