(sorry, meant to say ...what you HAD before) From the makers of "Celebrator"- The brewers at Ayinger can do no wrong....here I just picked up a bottle of this stuff. If you have the means I highly recommend you pick a bottle up. Anyone else had this stuff?

Saw some at a liquor store a few weeks ago in Texas. I haven't seen it around here.

I have, I kind of went on an Octoberfest kick two weeks ago. I tried about 6 in two days. I do remember that one being very good, but my favorite is still Bells.

I think the trouble with some of this is that the good ones from Germany may not be as fresh as you'd like by the time you get it. Ayinger is very good, as is Hacker-Pschorr and Paulaner (my personal favorite). I was at a local place last year and they had Paulaner Oktober on draft and it was excellent. I happen to have my Oktober on tap now (keg is probably less than half-full) and I was drinking it on Saturday while working on a painting project. Holy shit, it was so good I got to about the 7th or 8th pint and had to quit... nothing good can come from buzzed painting. :rolf: Cheers.

I think the Paulaner one is probably the best I've had. I may try to get my hands on some Bells.

Not true, at our last place my wife and I painted a coat, drank a glass of mead, painted a coat, drank a glass of mead. By the end of the night, we didn't care how it looked! Then people would complement us on the really cool faux finish we did :rolf:

I'd like to try Paulaner. My favorite I've actually had is Hofbrauhaus though (pretty lame right? what can I say I like it).

Paulaner is fantastic. The only problem is that I have never seen a homebrew recipe based on it. When I think Oktober (or Festbier, in general), my mind goes directly to the yeast. Wyeast 2206 makes a very malty-tasting, rich beer which I think screams FEST! But you can also design a great festbier recipe (grain-wise) and use yeasts like 2124, 833, 2633, maybe WLP820 and get such a great German character. I use 2124 in wimpy gold lagers and the beers are delicious. But I also use 2124 in my festbier and it's a completely different animal. This is one reason why I love lagers so much... flavors you just can't get with ales. But I suppose that works the opposite way too. I've been drinking a lot of festbier lately & it's a beautiful thing. Cheers!

I used 2308 in mine and I liked it. I don't have any basis for comparison though.

2308 is my personal favorite for brewing an Ofest. I brewed 5 gallons of my recipe and it was really popular this year I brewed 10 gallons of it and am drinking the first 5 gallons right now. Its a great yeast and Ofest is a great beer as well.

I can't seem to find the Ayinger one around here, but I really like Hacker-Psorr for German stuff (which is not around here this year apparently either). My favorite American micro version is Victory Festbier. I had the Sly Fox one the other day too and really enjoyed it as well. I went to BOTW yesterday to try to find the Ayinger, but had to "settle" for their Dunkel Weiss. Not the first time I have ever had it but it is killer.

Yea, the Ayinger is really good. my fav german is Hacker Psorr though. to me it seems alot more malty than the others I've tried, although I've yet to try the Hof-brau. That's next on my list.

If you ever get a chance I highly recommend that you try Live Oak Brewerys Oaktoberfest. Live Oak is based in Austin Texas and has one of the best Oktoberfest beers out there. The catch is they only keg, so you have to be at an area pub to enjoy some.
