Window shopping amps last night and Marshall tube amps have nearly doubled in price. Orange is actually “affordable” in comparison.

Yeah and old amps aren't much better. One of the reasons I didn't bat an eye on doing a full rebuild of my old amp. It was pricey but I'm set for the next 20 years with that thing. New amps are just insane. I'd like one of the new silktones though  :D

Always wanted to try doing that someday, keep us posted!

Will do! It's not like a total dream guitar, but an amalgamation of parts I've amassed over the past year or so. I've got a Joe Barden bridge, a set of Fender Custom shop pickups (Twisted Tele neck, Broadcaster bridge), Ping "vintage" tuners, "custom" three-way control plate from some dude on eBay. Never done anything like this, but am working through it. Next part is getting the neck on straight. Fortunately I have a Baja Tele to use as a reference.

I did a full Birchwood Casey finish on the body (Tru Oil, Sheen & Conditioner, Gunstock Wax) on the body. Far from perfect, but a solid 5 footer. In hindsight, I kinda wish I'd just used tung oil. The neck is bubinga (had the specs I wanted, and was on sale) and got a few coats of pure tung oil, then wax. It feels amazing.

I just picked up a minty block letter 5150 2x12 combo w/fresh tubes for $700. The market here sucks, but fortunately Austin is relatively close. :D

I just played several Satriani songs on it and I'm fucking in love. Just wow.

Nice, congrats! I’ve been eyeballing one of these Orange SS amps. I play through a BOSS GT-100 so I don’t really need anything with a ton of gain, In fact the cleaner the better.

I had zero use for the dirty channel

I’m guessing the 6L6 is a special edition? Mine may have had EL34s??

I currently play the Blackstar Artist 15.

Unlike most Blackstar Amps, this one doesn’t do the high gain stuff. It’s more of a clean/crunch amp. I love it

I played this amp in Guitar Center years ago and HAD to have it. Saw this past weekend that Sam Ash had it listed on Amazon for $200 off. I HAD to pull the trigger on it.

Traded my Keeley Fuzz Bender for a Walrus Audio Slotva plus a few bucks.

Picked up a Boss Waza Craft FZ-1 to replace the Keeley. :D

Surprised this thread made it through the meltdown the forum had a short while back.

After work I get to go home, crack a beer and tear my Spector bass down to the bare bones for the pickup upgrade. Got a set of EMG Geezer Butler signature PJ pickups, finally. I've been eyeing them for months and finally pulled the trigger, they showed up today. Next big upgrade will be a 4 knob onboard pre-amp with a blend control. I know EMG isn't everyone's cup of tea but I will say the thing they really got right is the solderless installation. That should really be the standard.

EMG's are fantastic pickups. Their onboard preamps and eq modules or whatever you want to call em are all top notch kit. I've always wanted a strat with a floyd rose and the EMG gilmour set, I might build one someday. I have swapped out lots of their pickups and the new solderless harnesses are really nice, really easy to install. You'll still need to solder the output jack but that's it.

Found a used gem. This one is from 2002, built in Rhode Island.

The guilds of that era are sorely underappreciated by the masses, which means they're still a great value anymore. Poor man's LP my ass, this thing beats a lot of the sub $4k LP's I've played. Chambered body, maple cap, Seymour Duncan pickups, I swapped out the weird stock knobs for the gibson style, looks better this way. The neck is not a lot like an LP, these are thinner and a bit flatter, very comfy, not chunky.

Nope, output is solderless as well (the one that comes with it anyway but the Spector has one of those barrel type plugs I’ll have to mess with.
Don’t let anyone fool you, dude, Guilds are great guitars. Nice find, she’s a beaut!

I must have been thinking of the three way switch, I remember there was something I still had to solder and I was like "solderless my ass"  :P

Really nice stuff tho. You really get used to the noiselessness fast, everything else will seem distractingly noisy by comparison.

Got the new pups installed, restrung with my favorite strings and intonated. First impression is I might leave them the way they are and not install a preamp. Very noticeable increase in volume and clarity, not muddy at all but can get very bright if you roll up on the tone too much. Money well spent.
