My buddy and I brewed a strong Scotch Ale yesterday. Each fermenter ended up with 4.5 gallons at 1.082. I forgot to run the numbers last night, but want to know what the gravity would be if it was topped off with 1/2 gallon (for total volume pre-ferment of 5) or possibly 1 gallon (for total volume pre-ferment of 5.5).If anyone has the ability to run the numbers, would appreciate. I'm likely to forget by the time I get home. The recipe that we worked out was 12 gallons at 1.071. I think our boil was a bit vigorous AND it was on a new system, so we are still working out dead space and otherwise determining efficiency.

The Mixing Formula: Aa + Bb = Ccwhere the capital letters are your volumes and the lower case letters are the attribute you care about, very useful for almost any attribute.

In spite of the math, I vote to not touch it.
