I had a few of these kicking around and was thinking about cutting them open, but abandoned the idea. Mine had the bung missing out of the side and I am not skilled enough to trust any weld job I could do to seal them up, plus i had a local brewery that sold me some standard sankes for $10 each. Im sure you can cut the top off like any other keg...thinking back on those kegs I should have tried to use them like a cask.

interesting input, i use corny kegs for long term aging, so i'll probably still convert it to a boil pot, i'm not close enough to any major brewery to get $10.00 sankes, plus my understanding on used kegs is it's getting to be a liability issue with the breweries, so they'd prefer to have them crushed. thanks .I had a few of these kicking around and was thinking about cutting them open, but abandoned the idea.
