Nah, it's not as far south as it first seems on a map - it's in the city proper and can be less than 20 minutes to downtown if you traffic gods actually smile on you.

The light rail is quicker and you don't have to worry about parking

I'm staying in Rainier Beach, which really isn't a nice area.  I got into town last Friday and had to find a quick place before I started work on Monday - kind of forced me to not be so picky, but it's a month to month and will let me find something better in the coming months.

Haven't had a chance to do any hiking yet :(

Man, do it when time permits.  I spent a few days up there last fall and hiked around Rainier for a couple of days and then spent three in Olympic National.  Some hiking, some just driving like up to Hurricane Ridge.  I'm a flatlander so the views were amazing to me.  I was also fortunate to catch very good and clear weather.  I don't think Rainier was hidden by cloud cover once while I was there until the day I flew out.

Buddy of mine and I are planning another trip up there together.  He was stationed there for six years and served on the Rainier, but he never really took the time to get around the area other than day trips with his family.  Fantastic area.

The hawt chick he tried to claim was his girlfriend. I think he was 15 at the time on the Greenboard.

:P

Overpriced for what little you get

If I wanted to live in the city, I'd look Ballard and north

he lives in an old apartment building that was built for construction workers that built the Worlds Fair in the 60s, trying to remember the exact neighborhood, IIRC he's on Summit Avenue

When I was there in 2013 Ballard seemed to be the up-and-comming hipsterville. Nano breweries, meth heads and "cycle saloons" pedaling by every 30 mins.
