I would call it a warm-weather beer but I picked up a 12er at my local bottle shop a few weeks ago. It's a sort of blonde ale where it seems like they used some Citra in the beer but they didn't hit you over the head with it like you might get in an APA or IPA. I'm not sure that I have seen a standard blonde ale hopped this way before. It's very good & refreshing and the Citra give it a sort of juiciness that is very good but not big. You guys know me... I'm impressed by less-than-impressive stuff.

I haven't tried it but I get where you're coming from. I appreciate any well crafted beer regardless of style. The subtle ones often go unnoticed even when they are flawless.

I brought some over to my inlaws last night white we were doing a family pizza night. I would guess that the yeast is something in the 1056/US05/WLP001 category. Very neutral. I'm only guessing that they used Citra but it seems like all of their beers are described as "tropical" and "slightly fruity". Their site doesn't say it's got Citra but I'm pretty sure they're in here. It does say they use "caramel malts" which must be something very light like C20 or so. The head is big & fluffy and the mouthfeel is very good. Again, most people would yawn about this beer but most blonde ales (they call it a "golden ale") are hopped to be more like a pilsner with clean hops. Most beers where Citra is used have 50-60 IBUs. So this is an interesting idea and one that I hadn't thought of. Cheers.

maybe a combo of carapils and a light caramel malt?

big fluffy head is tough without a decent amount of cara or crystal something in there.  at least that has been my experience.

considering it's still in the 50-60's around these parts a nice light, refreshing, beer would be quite nice.

I'll give this one a shot as it sounds pretty good

I agree.  I would do some 2 row and .5# of carapils and some cara 20 to get to the right color, I do not think it will take much.

I don't know how I missed that. I looked on their site twice and read the description of this beer which only mentioned "caramel malts". I must be getting old and senile. The ABV is lower than I thought it was too. I actually put a recipe together for this with 2-row, some wheat and a small amount of C40 (like 2 ounces) and carapils. Magnum and then late Citra and my recipe came to 25-26 IBUs and my ABV was 4.8%. I seem to have a tendency to take a wimpy commercial beer and then slightly jack the IBUs and ABV. I have done this with New Glarus Two Women, Negra Modelo and a few others where it's in the spirit of the original and taken to "eleven" but it's still a wimpy beer by most people's standard.

There was a link on the page that said "brewing specifications" or something like that. You had to click it.

Anyways, why not try to make it 1.041/4.4% like the original beer? My guess would be about 95%2-Row and 5% C10-C20. Small 1/4oz-ish additions of galaxy and citra at 10 or 5. WY1056

Kind of what I did but I was thinking wheat because this beer has a nice mouthfeel (that could come from Carapils too) and I did magnum to bitter and then a half ounce of Citra at 5 and thn again at 2 or something. No Galaxy in the brewery at the moment but I have a metric assload of Citra. 1056 on the yeast.

I'm not 100% convinced either way that wheat helps with mouthfeel and head retention.  I think it does but I haven't really done a good experiment to test it out.  sounds like a good one for brulosophy.
