I don't do big flowery reviews, but I just wanted to give this beer a shout out.  I grabbed a 12-pack yesterday and give it a try.  It's really a 'session' Saison.  3.8abv but very familiar saison character.  Delicious, refreshing beer.

Smuttynose always impresses me.  Everything I've ever had from them is high quality stuff.  I don't ever remember walking away disappointed from a Smuttynose beer (except for their pumpkin beer, but hey, I've I'll give them a break there.  I've never had a decent pumpkin beer).

I am going to look for this.  Sounds like a great summer drinker.

Definitely a nice summer cookout beer. I generally reach for a session ipa nowadays, but i could see this in the hot weather rotation.

you should stop by the brewery if you have not before.  it's a very nice facility.  the default tour doesn't teach you much about it but with some questions they might go into more detail.  it's a little convoluted to get there when you get off 101 but it's not far.

I have not been to the new one.  I toured the old one one morning of Kate Day after I got my ticket and waited till I could go back and have some RIS.

Most commercial Saisons are not up to par IMO including this one. It is an ok beer but Brett Saisons ruin the rest for me.

But you're a snob, so.... :P

Actually, as a strict saison I don't really find it great.  I find it great as a summer refresher.  At 3.8% you can pound them all day.  Except in very special cases I can't spend my day draining 6.0% ABV beers.  I'll be napping by the time I get three in.  It's really hard to find a reasonably priced beer around 4% that's also very flavorful.  Hell it's hard to find anything but macro swill near 4.0%.  Aside from this beer, some berliners and session IPAs.  They're getting more common, which is nice, but 3.8% is a low end outlier for ABV even for session beers.  The combination of very low ABV and saison character is what does it for me on this beer.

If Smutty starts canning this beer.  Holy feck.  It will be running through my veins this summer.

What do you think of Notch Saison, also 3.8% and comes in cans. I haven't had it since it first came out.

Giving this another chance right now, and I must say I am impressed. Seems a little drier than I remember but with a nice flavor profile and good hop character. Maybe they got it dialed in, if it keeps drinking like this it will be a mainstay for my summer rotation.
